Science Fair

For the science fair me and Rachel were planning on making a simple water powered light bulb, sadly we weren’t able to do that because of COVID-19, we weren’t able to meet with each other either. This being the main reason that I didn’t get much reading over the topic, because I was planning to do research with Rachel so that we knew that we both understood what we were going to be doing, sadly this fell through since we weren’t able to see each eachother.

This is what I imagined the water powered lightbulb would look like, I was thinking that we could have a small amount of water with a waterwheel.

Something very similar to that to power our lightbulb, I know that there are various videos that we could have used without COVID-19 being in the way so that our idea could’ve became a reality. Though we didn’t really have an idea of the items we were going to use to create this invention, we had a small idea such as using bottle caps, teaspoons for measuring maybe, anything that is able to push water and keep it stable such as popsicle sticks straws and things like that. We were planning on setting it up so it could have a consistent flow of water.

We didn’t connect with an expert or adult either.

My Science Quote

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

– Marie Curie

This quote resonates with me, because I feel that a lot of stigma of certain topics are because people are scared and ill-informed or don’t have much knowledge to begin with. Then people try to come up with their own reasonings completely throwing facts aside, which isn’t the right thing to do if the topic is a sensitive point of conversation. If someone decides to make a point in their conversation, they should at least be educated somewhat on the topic. I feel as though there’s many topics where people tend to say things being ill-informed or scared of the topic, which provokes people to say those things sometimes. For instance, sensitive topics such as mental health, and the road to recovery when dealing with mental health, not to mention all the stigma and misinformation around mental health issues, such as doing things for attention or that it will just go away. Other instances where people are trying to coax someone into getting better except the issue is that it’s extremely hard, and people seem to forget to give people space when involved with their mental health. As well as standpoints on religion, war, or even simpler topics yet they all have misinformation spreading, making it hard to find out what really happened, this is very common, which leads people to side with the misinformation sometimes since it’s all that they can find, or at least that’s what I see most often. But even if another person is misinformed always treat them with respect and show them that what they’ve been told isn’t the correct information, if they aren’t willing to understand your side of the topic then you should leave them respectfully with their opinion and carry on.

My digital footprint

https://www.hudson.sg/images/default-source/insights/personal-branding/digital-footprint.png?sfvrsn=e4d08dd7_5

I had taken the time to google myself in different search engines. I found pictures of other women with similar names. I’m glad my digital footprint has been kept to a minimum. if I were to go further into googling myself I would eventually find my social media accounts. I’m not very active with posting on those sorts of sites, so nothing came up under my name.

I think that keeping your digital footprint to a minimal amount is vital for future job opportunities, due to the fact that when you go to a job interview and state your name. they will do a background check to make sure that you are the sort of person they want in their company. For instance, if they find criminal records, or videos of you being irresponsible. you will most likely be declined the job.

Keeping your digital footprint appropriate and respectful is important, you should only be posting things that you would allow your grandmother to witness, with no repercussions on yourself. I recommend posting things that aren’t hateful or antagonizing to anyone of a specific point of view, religion, or belief of any kind. Think of the kind of point of view people will have on you. Think of the thing you are representing in that post, are you representing kindness, equality, and fairness? or are you representing hateful statements or opinions, violence, and rudeness?

Digital permanence is how posts on the internet will stay there for years, even if they are deleted, they are saved to archives and other ways of finding information. if you post a video or picture of yourself and friends being irresponsible or rude and hateful, people from your work, school, or community are able to find that, even if it was posted years ago, it’s a possibility the people you care most about may be able to see that video, is that the image you want for yourself?

Strategies. To ensure that your digital footprint is kept to a minimum and that you’re safe while using social media or other websites. You can put your account on private so that only certain people are allowed to view your content and you can manage who those people are. If your account of any social media isn’t on private you should make sure you’re aware of the people who follow you, you shouldn’t use your first and last name in usernames, or in posts. It is understandably dangerous, people could find more information on you. Another way to keep your information safe, make sure you don’t post using your full name or referencing any location close to you.

Favourite Picture.

This is my favourite picture because it’s a picture of Slipknot’s second album Iowa, which was released in 2001. For those who may not know much about Slipknot, Slipknot is an American heavy metal band. The original 9 members are all from Des Moines, Iowa. Which of course, inspired the name for their album, Iowa. After their first album self titled, released in 1999, the band wasn’t sure where their career was going to take them and with that came the unknown. But Slipknot truly put their heads together and embarked on a new journey, with heavier sounds and new vocal range. During the recording of the album, Slipknot says it was one of their darkest times as a band collectively, but they managed to pull through and create one of their biggest albums to date. We were all definitely not let down by Iowa.

favourite quote

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. That quote was written by Doctor Seuss, this quote in my opinion is about gratitude and being grateful for what you have, i believe that its a wonderful trait to be humble and kind. Never be ungrateful for the things you have, your health and the people you love, Because it could all be gone in a split second. Always treat every moment as if it were your last.

favourite video

Hello, I’m Vanessa, I’ve seen a lot of videos in my days, but this one for sure has to be my favourite. It’s from Vine, which was a popular social media platform around 2015. Sadly it was shut down on January 17th of 2017. The popular line from this video is “I don’t need a degree to be a clothing hanger”. The audio of a lady saying that line is attached to a video of her with a clothing hanger in the back of her shirt, hooking herself onto a door handle with the clothing hanger. I found it to be very amusing. Vine was definitely a time!
