Global Warming by Stefan Kraft

In the time we are living in climate change is a big deal. In Stefan Kraft’s “global warming” visual shows how we are hurting the planet and how fragile the world is. The visual shows us how we are undermining the damage we’ve done so far.

The subject matter of “global warming” is a melting planet. This shows respect, and how we are not respecting the planet. The artwork shows us the impact of climate change on how it’s not just a temporary thing. The visual displays critical issues in climate change like, extremely high temperatures, melting of ice caps, and habitat loss.  Stefan Kraft’s “global warming” visual, shows the HCE theme respect; by showing how much we’ve disrespected our planet. Examples of Disrespectful things we’ve done to the planet, littering when we know it’s wrong, and we still do it, driving when we could easily walk or take a train which is better for the environment, there are many other things, too many to list. The visual is an example of climate change but a very exaggerated version.

Colours are used in a very powerful way in this piece. Stefan Kraft used very bright bold colours. He uses bright blue and bright green to represent our planets natural beauty, helping us appreciate our planet and what’s given to us. These colours are put into contrast with orange. The colour orange is blues complementary colour. Using orange in this piece makes it easier for us to look and take in the piece and think about it a bit more. When you think of orange, there are two different meaning. Orange can either be representing, calming, exciting, and freshness, or danger, arrogance, and impatience. It really depends on your experience with the colour, since everyone has a different perspective on their feelings with colours.

The vectors in the visuals are the melting planet. If we were to think about what it might have been before it was most likely a full planet, full of lush greenery and beautiful sceneries, but now its mess melted on the floor. Another vector is the stand for the globe part, that part was added to lead the viewers eyes to the globe in the center. Another vector possible could be the circle in the background. I think the Circle represents the sun, so the piece isn’t just in an empty void and look unfinished. It can also symbolize that its only our planet and not any other planets. Showing us that it’s really us doing the damage and no one else.

In conclusion, the artwork serves as a reminder that we are responsible to protect our planet and help find a way for a sustainable future for our planet. The visual ultimately shows us the outcome of what will happen if we don’t start working towards a more sustainable future, because currently the way we are living is very unsustainable and harmful to the planet and us. You might be thinking now what? Now, we should all start working towards a sustainable future and be thoughtful on our impact on the planet and the other creatures living on our planet. Some ways you could help make a difference are by, reduce the amount of waste you create, reuse items you already have, and recycle your items that are recyclable. Those are just some examples of simple and easy ways for you to make an impact and help save our planet.

Meaningful quote

“Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” – Dr. Suess.

I chose this quote because I believe that you should always just be yourself, and you should not try and be someone you’re not. This quote is meaningful to me because, in grade eight this was my yearbook quote. This quote shows who I am because, I’ve realized that sometimes I act like others and forget to be myself.
