For the bazaar, I worked with 2 other girls called Vivian and Olivia. Our group decided to sell calendars. To make the decision of what product to make, we created a survey and asked questions about calendars and another product we had in mind, succulents. Other reasons we chose to use calendars were because of the budget and the amount of time to make the products. After we decided our product we looked for ways on how to make them. We made tag calendars that were inside a wooden box , a geometric shaped calendar and 2 types of big classic calendar and 1 small classic calendar. In total buying all these materials cost us 63.21. We sold for 5 days down at the MPR during lunch. Before lunchtime started we left class 10-15 min. earlier than usual to set up and after the bazaar we cleaned our table up. During the bazaar we talked to the customers about the benefits of our products, walked around advertising them, wrote down the number of products sold and exchanged money with buyers. On the first day of the holiday bazaar the sales didn’t go that well. On the second and third day sales went up but the price of the geometric calendar was lowered on day 3. On day 4 sales went down again. the last day of the bazaar we sold the most amount of products and had huge massive sales. All the products were lowered to 50 cents each. We made a profit of $104 in total.
The academic concepts I used was the core competencies such as creativity, communication, social responsibility and critical thinking. Creativity was involved in the designing of our calendars. We designed the products ourselves and This project involved a lot of communication and my group and I did that through the internet and face to face. We discussed about how we should plan and make things and talking to potential buyers also involved communication. Social responsibility was incorporated in this project by the whole class donating 100% profit to the charity except the amount of money used to buy pizza. Math was highly involved with this project too. A lot of calculations had to be made. I calculated the amount we spent in total and my group members double checked it. From counting out the change to the buyers and verifying the amounts of products sold each day. Math was used in all of these aspects. The above academic concepts were what was used to complete the goal. During the bazaar we changed our approach by approaching the customers and lowering the prices. This was different from my initial expectations because I thought we would be selling less days and that there would be more customers. I also didn’t except that the prices of the calendars would be lowered down to 50 cents each.
I learned how to plan ahead better, use digital skills to create designs, how to save cost and promoting a product/. I learned these skills by creating a calendar for the holiday bazaar but we didn’t end up using it because the size of the calendar was too big. We learned to save cost throughout the process of checking out the materials needed and trying to use a coupon at Michaels but we didn’t manage to find it in the end. Although we didn’t find the coupon we got a better way to reduce our costs it was using the printer at Olivia’s dad’s work to print out the flat calendars for zero cost. Promoting a product was learned throughout the 5 days we sold products at the holiday bazaar. I spoke to multiple customers and walked around twice. All the skills above are important to have in life. In the future I will probably need to use digital skills for projects, and promoting the stuff I will make and talking about it will also be used in the future The most important skill that I learned was planning ahead, something I will be using for the rest of my life.
