Digital Footprint

It’s important to be aware of your digital footprint because in the future when you apply for universities they will look for information about you on the web and if you have posted inappropriate or bad photos of yourself, they will most likely not accept you. Research also shows  48% of employers will use search engines to research people before considering to hire them.  The second reason to be aware of your digital footprint is because the whole world can see it and you might offend someone or embarrass yourself.

3 strategies you can use to protect your digital footprint is to check all the security settings on your social media accounts , ex: making sure your account is private on Instagram. The second one is to search yourself up on multiple search engines and make sure there isn’t anything you want the whole world to see and if there is you can ask to have it taken down. The third way to protect your digital footprint is to delete accounts you no longer need.

Digital permanence is the same thing as a digital footprint and is the effect of  what you put on the internet. Digital permanence is important because the information will always be up there and you have no idea who like at it and what they are doing with it. It can have a positive or negative impact on your future life. I would explain the idea of digital permanence as a booklet you created about yourself but anyone can access it online and if your not careful you will be trouble onto yourself. In general everyone should be careful with what they are putting on the internet and make sure to not hurt yourself and others.

Holiday Bazaar Reflection

For the bazaar, I worked with 2 other girls called Vivian and Olivia. Our group decided to sell calendars. To make the decision of what product to make, we created a survey and asked questions about calendars and another product we had in mind, succulents. Other reasons we chose to use calendars were because of the budget and the amount of time to make the products. After we decided our product we looked for ways on how to make them. We made tag calendars that were inside a wooden box , a geometric shaped calendar and 2 types of big classic calendar and 1 small classic calendar. In total buying all these materials cost us 63.21. We sold for 5 days down at the MPR during lunch. Before lunchtime  started we left class 10-15 min. earlier than usual to set up and after the bazaar we cleaned our table up. During the bazaar we talked to the customers about the benefits of our products, walked around advertising them, wrote down the number of products sold and exchanged money with buyers. On the first day of the holiday bazaar the sales didn’t go that well. On the second and third day sales went up but the price of the geometric calendar was lowered on day 3. On day 4 sales went down again.  the last day of the bazaar we sold the most amount of products and had huge massive sales. All the products were lowered to 50 cents each. We made a profit of $104 in total.

The academic concepts I used was the core competencies such as creativity, communication, social responsibility and critical thinking. Creativity was involved in the designing of our calendars. We designed the products ourselves and This project involved a lot of communication and my group and I did that through the internet and face to face. We discussed about how we should plan and make things and talking to potential buyers also involved communication. Social responsibility was incorporated in this project by the whole class donating 100% profit to the charity  except the amount of money used to buy pizza. Math was highly involved with this project too. A lot of calculations had to be made. I calculated the amount we spent in total and my group members double checked it.  From counting out the change to the buyers and verifying  the amounts of products sold each day. Math was used in all of these aspects. The above academic concepts were what was used to complete the goal. During the bazaar we changed our approach by approaching the customers and lowering the prices. This was different from my initial expectations because I thought we would be selling less days and that there would be more customers. I also didn’t except that the prices of the calendars would be lowered down to 50 cents each.

I learned how to plan ahead better, use digital skills to create designs, how to save cost and promoting a product/. I learned these skills by creating a calendar for the holiday bazaar but we didn’t end up using it because the size of the calendar was too big. We learned to save cost throughout the process of checking out the materials needed and trying to use a coupon at Michaels but we didn’t manage to find it in the end. Although we didn’t find the coupon we got a better way to reduce our costs it was using the printer at Olivia’s dad’s work to print out the flat calendars for zero cost. Promoting a product was learned throughout the 5 days we sold products at the holiday bazaar. I spoke to multiple customers and walked around twice. All the skills above are important to have in life. In the future I will probably need  to use digital skills for projects, and promoting the stuff I will make and talking about it will also be used in the future The most important skill that I learned was planning ahead, something I will be using for the rest of my life.

This picture is of my favourite book series when I was in middle school. I liked these series alot. It was about a world where creativity was considered wrong and people who had magical powers were killed but this wizard saved all of them and created a new world. The plot of this story was very interesting and I would recommend this series to someone else.

Youtube clip

My sister showed me this video and I like it alot because it tells a important  difference between empathy and sympathy. It teaches you what you need to do to  make someone feel better when their feeling down and to connect with them. I think it’s important to know the difference between these two words because empathy is actually be able to help someone feel better and sympathy is just trying to make the situation sound better but that doesn’t help.

Meaningful quote

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging your back with difficulties, it means it’s going to launch you into something great. So just focus, and keep aiming”

I choose this  quote because to me it means when things aren’t working out you shouldn’t give up because if you do you’ll never know where it could’ve lead you. It’s also  telling people not to let the bad things and days in life to bring you down. I got this quote from http://edlester.com/17-short-positive-quotes-will-brighten-day/.
