Promises should be kept. Responsibility should be continued. So why is it that we say we will change, but can’t seem to execute any of our words at all?
“Global Warming” by Stefan Kraft demonstrates how the theme of responsibility connects to global warming by exploring through the different topics of pollution conveyed through creative visual cues like lighting, subject matter and colour.
In this visual, “Global Warming”, the theme of responsibility is shown in a variety of colours, from mellow shades of orange and yellow to bright greens and blues. By examining this image, the viewer can feel a sense of sickness and unease due to the dim and bright colours contrasting. These colours can connect to many different things. Orange and yellow represent forest fires and blue and green for the deteriorating earth. The important theme of responsibility is shown in this image through the artist’s intentions and the message behind it. Using context, we can see it’s a message trying to display action to save the earth. The colours in this image show our theme in such a way that it’s hard to spot. Thus, linking colours with impact is another way of showing global warming.
Pollution, a very serious problem happening not only across the world but in space as well, shows the theme of responsibility in the visual “Global Warming”. In this visual by Kraft, the image of pollution is shown in a unique way with a melting globe. This shows pollution by making us connect what we associate “melting” and a globe with. Another thing we can connect with in the image to create some context is the sun in the background. Although it isn’t a part of the focus of the image, it can still be used to help create more information about the image and its message. The sun can represent us melting the globe; therefore, responsibility is shown with associating pollution with an image of melting.
Lighting, a crucial key of any image, shows the theme responsibility by highlighting the globe so it’s the focal point of the image. With the light focusing on the globe the most, it becomes the main item for the viewer to anchor to. The different types of lighting in this image can show depth and help the viewer focus on certain parts. These small details can also affect the overall impact of the visual, making things bright in the middle and dimmer in the background will make the viewer resonate with the center piece more. So, as the lighting guides us to the focal point, it helps us view and connect with the image on a deeper level, creating a serious message to viewers about global warming.
All things considered, the theme of responsibility is represented diversely in this image through colour, lighting, and the use of context in subject matter. With these three visual cues working together, they can help the viewer sympathize and connect with the image to create context and display the important message of global warming. By observing this image, feelings of empathy and understanding can come, reminding us of what is happening and leaving us wondering what we can do before its resources run dry, and it melts into a pile of nothing.

I selected this video because of how meaningful and important friends and friendship can be in someone’s life, human or animal. Kitbull is a short animation that tells the story of how a timid kitten and a fighting dog came to be friends.
When little eight-year-old me first discovered this film, you could probably imagine how hard I cried and sobbed along with the pixels of the animation. This is why I feel like I have such a deep connection with this animation in particular both emotionally and mentally. It shows that sometimes, it’s okay to be cautious. But to truly create relationships and bonds full of quality, you have to open up and take the first step. I feel like this represents me as a person as well because of how cautious and timid I tend to be when making friends. I often keep to myself and don’t attempt to step out of my comfort zone when approaching new people. While rewatching this and researching a bit, I realized this film also gives the message of the treatment of animals. I feel like today, not as many people talk about the treatment of animals very much and we are ignorant of the fact that there are still many active dog-fighting facilities around the world both under the radar and in some cases, legally. As I see it, governments should not condone this and work harder to fully be rid of these facilities and find homes for poorly treated animals that live on the streets.

The reason I chose this picture is because of how significantly it impacted me when I first looked at it. How I processed the image in my head was the fact that you should not take things for granted and should always give when you can. As you can see in the image, a man with many umbrellas is shielding himself from the rain whilst the second man has none and is being drenched in rain. But although the man on the right has more than enough umbrellas to share, he isn’t even looking at the man or considering the fact that he could share one of his many umbrellas with the poor man. I feel like the message this image is trying to portray is that we should always be grateful for what we have and not be ignorant of the fact that we have enough to share with others in need. I think that my thoughts about this picture may give people the impression that I’m a very observant person. However, I disagree. There are definitely many things I am ignorant about as well. I’d like to work on this and eventually be able to know when to help and how to help others.

I chose this quote because of the bigger meaning behind the overall first impressions when you read it. This is how I interpreted it. “Success is not final” implies that no matter what, you will still have room for improvement. If you think you’ve mastered something, check again. No one is ever perfect in anything, and everyone should remember that. “Failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.” I feel like this is the part of the quote I resonate with. In my view, it means that failing isn’t so bad sometimes. Instead of looking at failure with negativity, we should look at it from a positive point of view, and learn from our mistakes. Because no matter how many times you fail, that number is how many times you can learn. Building a persevering mindset like this can definitely benefit anyone with future problems and obstacles. I think this describes me as a person because I like to, or always try to look to the light and look at all the positives over negatives.
