Plastic Ocean Reflection

  1. The scene where they showed the kids living surrounded by trash most affected. It made me realize that actual people are living in horrible conditions in this world, and I should be extremely grateful for even having a clean environment to live in at all.
  2. Today, I used a reusable plastic bag to pack my lunch, a plastic fan last night, toothbrush, plastic cup, plastic container to store the ingredients for my lunch, plastic bread bag, ride in a car (plastic parts).
  3. I believe we can reduce our plastic consumption by switching to paper packaging, especially when shopping. Instead of using plastic bags, bring your own paper bags. As a school, we can replace plastic by switching plastic spoons and knives to one made from other materials. Or maybe replace the plastic containers used by the cafeteria. Also, we should remove vending machines because all the food/drinks inside are packaged in plastic. We should care about this because it dramatically affects our future. Plastic contains harmful chemicals that can affect the human body in negative ways. For example, it could affect the reproductive system and some could even cause cancer. In the documentary, the mom went into a research lab where they test everyday items (water bottles, food containers….) for harmful toxins. It showed that essentially all plastic items contain toxins that are harmful to the human body.

Squishy Circuits – Science

    1. The blue dough conducts electricity better than the pink dough. Utilizing my sense of smell, I infer that they were made out of flour with oil added to it. The pink dough appears to contain more moisture and the blue dough, which leads me to believe the blue dough contains salt (based on the assumption that the same amount of water was added).
    2. Note: the LED’s are actually lit up on the image on the right.
    3. For some reason the list is broken? The image refuses to go below the number…
    4. To increase the brightness of the LED, we decreased the amount of dough used and utilized only blue dough. We also decreased the number of LEDs in order to make each individual one brighter.
    5. To decrease the brightness of the LED, we put as much distance between the LED and the wire from the battery, utilized pink dough, and increased the number of LEDs.
    6. For my personal definition of resistance, “the force opposing change”.

Meaningful Quote

A Ship is always safe at shore. But that is not what it’s built for.

-Albert Einstein

This quote is significant and profound. I interpret the quote like this: that to fully enjoy life; you have to take risks and enjoy each moment as much as you can.

Interesting Video

I like this video because it reflects how much technology has progressed in recent years. A century ago, it would not have been imaginable to freely fly in the sky without riding on an airplane. Most people would not have even thought that one hundred years into the future, most machines are computerized and can be controlled by a single tap on a smartphone.
