Plastic Ocean Reflection

  1. The scene where they showed the kids living surrounded by trash most affected. It made me realize that actual people are living in horrible conditions in this world, and I should be extremely grateful for even having a clean environment to live in at all.
  2. Today, I used a reusable plastic bag to pack my lunch, a plastic fan last night, toothbrush, plastic cup, plastic container to store the ingredients for my lunch, plastic bread bag, ride in a car (plastic parts).
  3. I believe we can reduce our plastic consumption by switching to paper packaging, especially when shopping. Instead of using plastic bags, bring your own paper bags. As a school, we can replace plastic by switching plastic spoons and knives to one made from other materials. Or maybe replace the plastic containers used by the cafeteria. Also, we should remove vending machines because all the food/drinks inside are packaged in plastic. We should care about this because it dramatically affects our future. Plastic contains harmful chemicals that can affect the human body in negative ways. For example, it could affect the reproductive system and some could even cause cancer. In the documentary, the mom went into a research lab where they test everyday items (water bottles, food containers….) for harmful toxins. It showed that essentially all plastic items contain toxins that are harmful to the human body.
