Image of impact

The image I have chosen can be viewed below.

(courtesy of https://www.edn.com/eniac-is-formally-announced-february-15-1946)

This is a picture of the first computer ever produced, the ENIAC (Electrical Numerical Integrator and Calculator). It was completed in 1945 at the University of Pennsylvania, and used in World War II for theĀ United States Army’sĀ Ballistic Research Laboratory.

I have chosen this image as it’s symbolic of how far technology has come in a few short years; the ENIAC filled a 50-foot long basement room, while the smallest modern computer as of today is a fraction of the size of a grain of rice.

Visual reminders of how different things were just a few short decades ago make it easy to feel grateful for the convenience and wonder of today. As I am a person who uses technology a lot in my daily life, sometimes it’s important to remember how things I take for granted were so complicated and expensive in the past.

  1. I can see from this post and your blog’s subtitle that you are one to honour the past. What a beautiful thing! Hopefully someone of the future will honour your work when you make history.
