Winter Market Reflection

  1. Describe your experience.

My business partner (Natalie Howell) and I created a partnership called Snowsthetic, established in early November. My friend Natalie is a grade 9 student in my Marketing and Entrepreneurship 9 class in Block 5 this semester. Our job was to create a business and sell our products at the 2019 Winter Market from December 10-13. We created a business called Snowsthetic, and we sold 3 products: Frosted Fantasy, Crystal Clear, and Snow Globes. Our business specializes in holiday decor. Frosted Fantasy and Crystal Clear are both decorative mason jars with fairy lights in them. Our Snow Globes are handmade snow globes made out of mason jars. At the market, we sold out of our Frosted Fantasies within the first 3 days, making it our most popular product.

2. Examine your experience.

One of the main aspects of this assignment we needed to complete was the business plan, and to do this, we had to use academic concepts. It was essentially a 25-page document talking about our business in-depth, from an explanation of our logo to our financial plan. The business plan took an extreme amount of effort from both of us. I used my computer skills to format the document and to make it look appealing, and Natalie and I both used our writing skills to write out most of the documents. Not only did we have to use academic skills from other classes, but we also used the skills and information that we learned in our marketing class to complete the assignment.

3. Articulate Learning

By creating a business, I learned how to improve my communication skills. I also greatly improved my marketing skills and time-management skills. I also learned how to be more responsible for my belongings, especially during the market.  These skills are important in life because they can possibly help me in the future when I aim to get a job. In the future, these skills can still be improved to further my abilities in these areas. However, this market has given me a really good head start on that.

COMMUNICATION:

Communication was one of the most important aspects of this assignment. Firstly, since this assignment was a group project, I already had to communicate with my partner effectively to get this done efficiently. We had to get the right materials at the right time and go to each other’s houses to get things done and to make the products. Another example in which we used communication is when we were marketing, both online and at the market. We made an Instagram account to reach out to more people and communicate pre-orders. At the market, we tried to draw customers to our stand by verbally marketing constantly. People are more inclined to come to a noisy stand than a quiet one.
