Workplace Mathematics 10 – MWPM-10
This course is designed to provide students with the Mathematical understanding and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into the majority of trades and for the direct entry into the work force. Topics include understanding and applying the SI and imperial systems to the measurement of 2-D and 3-D objects, geometry, probability, statistics, trigonometry and financial literacy. All topics are taught within a framework of problem-solving. With successful completion, students are prepared for Workplace Math 11.
Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 – MFMP-10
This course is designed to provide students with the Mathematical understanding and critical-thinking skills identified for post-secondary academic studies at colleges and universities. Topics include probability, applying trigonometric ratios to right triangles, powers involving integral exponents, polynomials, coordinate geometry with linear relations, systems of linear equations, relations and functions, and financial literacy. With successful completion, students are prepared for either Foundations of Math 11 or Pre-Calculus 11. Students need to consult with their teacher to determine the appropriate math course selection for grade 11.
Pre-Diploma Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 – MFMP-10IB
Achievement of at least a B and excellent work habits in Pre-IB Mathematics 9 or teacher permission is recommended. This course is the second of two courses that will prepare students to have success in IB Mathematics 11. It provides more depth in all topics and places emphasis on creative problem solving. The topics include Algebra, Polynomials and Factoring, Rational Expressions, Radicals, Co-ordinate and Circle Geometry, Relations and Functions, Systems of Equations, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, and Financial Literacy.
Workplace Mathematics 11 – MWPM11
Identified for entry into the majority of trades and for entry into the workforce. The course will include topics in basic skills, 3-D objects, angles and views, probability and statistics, basic algebra, slopes and rates of change, interpreting graphs, and financial literacy. Students need to complete a grade 10 level mathematics course before taking Workplace Math 11.
Foundations of Math 11 – MFOM-11
This course is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical thinking skills using technology identified for post-secondary studies in programs that do not require calculus. This may include the Humanities, Fine Arts, some trades and technical programs. Topics include Scale Models, Mathematical Reasoning, Angle Relationships, Quadratic functions, System of Equations/Linear Inequalities, Statistics, and Financial Mathematics. Verification with your counsellor is recommended to determine post-secondary general acceptance. Students need to complete Foundations of Math & Pre-Calculus 10 before taking Foundations of Math 11.
Pre-Calculus 11 – MPREC-11
This course is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical thinking skills technology using identified for entry into post-secondary programs requiring calculus.
The course topics include Exponents & Radicals, Operations on Radicals, Factoring & Applications, Trigonometry: Angles &Ratios, Sine and Cosine Laws, Quadratic Equations and Functions, Rational Expressions and Equations, Inequalities, and Financial mathematics. This course meets the requirements of general acceptance for all British Columbia universities. Some faculties require Pre-Calculus 12 and/or Calculus 12. Students should have received a mark of C+ or higher and excellent work habits in Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 before taking Pre-Calculus 11.
IB Math: Analysis & Approaches (SL) 11 – IAAS-11
This course is recommended for students intending to study Sciences and Business. IB 11 AA SL and IB 12 AA SL cover the topics required for the IB AA SL exams. The topics include properties of Real Numbers, Radicals, Equations, Coordinate Geometry, Logarithms, Trigonometry, Functions and Relations, and Probability.
IB Math: Applications and Interpretations (SL) 11 –IBAIS11
This course is intended for students who enjoy mathematics in practical contexts and want to develop their skills in applying mathematical concepts to real-world problems. It covers key topics like statistics, probability, functions, and mathematical modeling, with an emphasis on interpretation and analysis using technology. The SL course provides a solid foundation for students interested in careers or further studies in areas like social sciences, and humanities. IB 11 AI SL and IB 12 AI SL cover the topics required for the IB AI SL exams.
IB Math: Applications and Interpretations (HL) 11– IBAIH11
This course is designed for students who are passionate about exploring real-world mathematical applications using advanced tools and technology. A strong interest and background in Math is recommended. With a strong focus on mathematical modeling, statistics, probability, and calculus, students will analyze and solve complex problems in diverse fields such as social sciences, economics, and engineering. The HL course is rigorous, ideal for those seeking to pursue higher education in areas where the practical use of mathematics is crucial. This course is recommended for students intending to study Engineering, Computing Science, Mathematics or having a strong interest and background in Math. IB 11 AA HL and IB 12 AA HL cover the topics required for the IB AA HL exams. The topics in IB Math 11 SL and additional topics are covered with much more rigour and depth.

This course is designed to provide the students with mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills with the assistance of technology. This course is recognized for post-secondary studies in programs that do NOT require the study of calculus. Topics include Venn Diagrams & Set Theory, Analyzing Puzzles & Games, Permutations & Combinations, Probability, Constructions, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Polynomial & Sinusoidal Functions, Fractals and Financial Planning.
Pre-Calculus 12 – MPREC12
Achievement of at least a B and excellent work habits in Pre-Calculus Math 11 or teacher permission is highly recommended. This course is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into post-secondary programs that require the study of calculus. Topics include Functions & Relations,
Transformations, Conics, Exponential & Logarithmic functions, Applications of Exponential & Logarithmic functions, Geometric Sequence and series, Polynomial functions, Analyzing Rational Functions, Trigonometry – Functions and Graphs, Trigonometry-Equations & Identities.
Calculus 12 – MCALC12
This course is designed for students with well-developed Algebra and Trigonometry skills who plan to take calculus at a post-secondary institution. Achievement of at least a B in Pre-Calculus 12 or teacher’s permission is recommended. The main topics are Functions, limits, continuity, derivative rules, curve sketching, related rates problems, maximum-minimum problems, integral rules, Using Riemann sum to find the area under a curve, areas & volumes by integrations. Exposure to calculus in secondary school is strongly recommended for all students planning to study mathematics, sciences, applied sciences, engineering, technology or business in university. It is highly correlated with success in university calculus classes.
