Technology Education
ADST – Metal Work 9 – MADM-09
This is an introductory course to art metal. Student’s will be introduced to a variety of metal working skills that include oxyacetylene welding, silver soldering, casting and sterling silver, jewelry making, etc. Emphasis will be placed on design in producing skill building projects that are beautiful as works of art and functional as well. The safe use of power and hand tools will be taught throughout the course as learners produce projects as diverse as sterling silver rings and wrought iron stools. ADST – Woodwork 9 – MADW-09
This course will introduce students to the fun and exciting world of woodworking. Whether they are interested in pursuing a career as a Cabinetmaker/Carpenter or just want to learn a new hobby, they will find this course to be both beneficial and interesting. Students will be creating projects that could become family heirlooms, to be passed to future generations, or given as gifts to someone special. These projects may include small gift boxes, side tables, or epoxy cutting boards. Students will get a chance to use a CNC Router with there project. ADST – Power Technology 9: Power Mechanics – MADPT09
This course will provide students with an introduction to energy, mechanical devices and motion. An emphasis on practical hands-on experiences will prepare students to move on to more advanced technical or mechanical courses. Students will learn internal combustion engine design and operation; disassemble and rebuild a small four stroke engine. Students will study rocketry; build and launch their own rocket. Crash test vehicles will be designed, manufactured and tested.
ADST – Electronics and Robotics 9: Mechatronics 9 – MADER09
This course is a unique sampler of 3 courses that teaches basics of Mechanical and Structural Engineering, Electronics and Robotics, and Drafting and Design. Students will be introduced to a variety of engineering fields and investigate basic principles within those fields. Working in groups of 2 or exploring on their own, students will be given challenges to design engineering and electronic solutions. Once the solution has been realized, a prototype will be built and tested. Everything must have a plan before it is built; so, this course will also introduce students to the concepts of design and visual communication by developing skills in sketching and technical drawings. Students will be also exposed to 3D drawings and 3D printing.
As a part of this course students will be introduced to ACAD and Arduino programs as well as fundamentals of electronics. Students will experiment with a variety of electronic components on a solderless breadboard. They will demonstrate an understanding of basic circuits before proceeding to program Arduino microcontrollers and apply basic electronics skills to explore robotics.
Projects may include the Great Earthquake challenge, a Mini-Gravity Car, and a remote-controlled Cyborg Mask.
