Applications of Learning 10

This course will provide students with the opportunity to develop self-awareness of their own learner profile and become proactive in their own learning. It will also support student success in academic areas and assist in the following areas: organization, time management and social emotional well-being. The focus on independence, advocacy skills, and personal goal setting, combined with addressing study skills and organizational techniques in this course will provide a foundation for successful school completion and lifelong learning.

Self-Efficacy 10

This course will provide students with ways to develop, nurture, and reflect upon their self-efficacy. The big ideas of the course are to nurture self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and to help students build positive relationships.

Students will learn strategies and skills that will support them in their communication, decision-making, and problem-solving. At the end of the course, students will create a portfolio of strategies and reflections from the course.

Self-Efficacy 11

This course will provide students with ways to develop, nurture, and reflect upon their self-efficacy. The big ideas of the course are to nurture self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and to help students build positive relationships.

Students will learn strategies and skills that they will apply to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, make responsible and caring decisions, show empathy for others, and to establish and sustain supportive relationships. At the end of the course, students will reflect on their overall progress and personal goals, as well as how they might create new possibilities for themselves.

Personalized Numeracy

Students registered in personalized numeracy do not receive course credits and are working towards individual numeracy goals, which are outlined in their individualized education plan. Each student’s programming will be personalized to help support continued development of mathematical fluency. Adaptations and supports include modeling, direct instruction, IXL support, manipulatives, practice drills, money math, group work, and math games. Students wanting to take this class must get prior approval from their counsellor, case manager, or administrator.

Personalized Literacy

Students registered in personalized literacy do not receive course credits and are working towards individual literacy goals, which are outlined in their individualized education plan. Each student’s programming will be personalized to help support continued development of reading, writing, and verbal fluency. Adaptations and supports include modeling, direct instruction, MyLexia support, audio books, technology supports, group work, and visuals. Students wanting to take this class must get prior approval from their counsellor, case manager, or administrator.

Personalized Life Skills

Students registered in life skills do not receive course credits and are working towards individual goals, which are outlined in their individualized education plan. In addition to these personalized goals, this course helps to support students who benefit from explicit instruction about social skills, emotional literacy, and communication. This course also encourages daily life skills like using public transportation, grocery shopping, meal preparations, cooking, laundry, cleaning, among other hygienic skills. Students work hard, in this class, to develop skills that promote independence, personal growth and reflection. Students wanting to take this class must get prior approval from their counsellor, case manager, or administrator.

Personalized Transition Planning

Students registered in personalized transition planning do not receive course credits and are working towards individual goals, which are outlined in their individualized education plan. This course connects students with district supports, like Work Experience programs and connections with our district Transitions Coordinator, to prepare them to transition outside of high school. Students will explore concepts like budgeting, job interviews, post-secondary options, and will help students develop independence in everyday tasks once graduating high school. These opportunities allow students to feel successful at school, while simultaneously preparing them for adulthood. Students wanting to take this class must get prior approval from their counsellor, case manager, or administrator.
